How to Download from MEGA using a Download Manager

Introduction: MEGA is a cloud storage service that offers end-to-end encryption and generous storage options. While MEGA’s browser-based download functionality has its limitations, using a download manager can overcome these issues. In this article, we will guide you through the process of downloading files from MEGA using a download manager.

Note: Please be aware that the steps outlined in this tutorial were accurate at the time of writing, but MEGA’s URL structure and supported applications may have changed since then. It is recommended to refer to MEGA’s official documentation or website for the most up-to-date information.

Step 1: Generate a Download Link with MegaDownloader To begin, you’ll need to use an application called MegaDownloader to generate a download link for the file you want to download. Follow these steps:

  1. Launch MegaDownloader and navigate to Options > Configuration > Streaming.
  2. Enable the option ‘Use streaming server’ in the configuration settings.
  3. Copy the MEGA download link for the file you wish to download. For example https://mega.nz/#!ouR2hQJT!utjCA5ODxrp8zSGR8gbwMB9gmkJkFpAhoJsbHOJx7ZY.
  4. MegaDownloader will automatically detect the copied URL and open the streaming window. If it doesn’t, go to the menu, select the Streaming option, then choose Watch Online, and paste the link in the MEGA URL link box.
  5. Copy the link generated in the Streaming URL link box. It will look something like http://localhost:54321/streaming?t=1.
  6. Leave MegaDownloader running in the background.

Step 2: Download the File with a Download Manager Now that you have the generated streaming link, you can use a download manager of your choice to initiate the download. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your preferred download manager (e.g., FDM, IDM).
  2. Paste the generated streaming link into the download manager’s add download window.
  3. Start the download as you would normally do. In the case of FDM, click the “Start” button.
  4. If you need to download multiple files, repeat the steps above and feed each generated streaming link to your download manager. The links will be similar, with only the last part differing (e.g., http://localhost:54321/streaming?t=1, http://localhost:54321/streaming?t=2, http://localhost:54321/streaming?t=3).
  5. The downloads may initially appear as “streaming,” but as the download progresses, the actual file name and extension will be resolved. If the renaming doesn’t occur automatically, remember to rename the file with the correct name and extension once the download is complete.

Conclusion: By using a download manager in conjunction with MegaDownloader, you can overcome the limitations of MEGA’s browser-based download functionality. This method allows for more reliable and efficient downloads, particularly for large files. Remember to refer to MEGA’s official documentation for any updates or changes to their services. Enjoy seamless downloading from MEGA using a download manager of your choice!
